| | FM Global Posts Solid Ratings from A.M. Best, Fitch By John Millrany - June 15, 2001Insurer ratings companies A.M. Best and Fitch have affirmed their financial strength ratings of commercial and industrial property insurer FM Global, which reported net income of $354 million last year. A.M. Best affirmed FM Global's A+ (superior) rating and Fitch affirmed its AA (very strong) rating with a "stable" rating outlook.
A.M. Best said the rating reflects FM Global's "strong capitalization, prominent market position and outstanding reputation within the commercial property market." Fitch cited the company’s "strong capitalization, good competitive positioning in the highly protected risk (HPR) market, and improving underwriting trends."
Additionally, Fitch acknowledged the Rhode Island-based insurer’s large market share in the HPR market where "its engineering and loss prevention staff's engineering expertise provides a significant competitive advantage." While competition in the HPR market has intensified in recent years, "Fitch believes that FM Global remains well positioned largely because of its engineering expertise and long-term presence in the HPR market."
A.M. Best remarked that FM Global continues to be ranked among the leading providers of commercial property insurance in the US, saying that it "continues to serve a significant number of Fortune 1,000 companies worldwide, many of which have been clients of FM Global for more than 25 years. FM Global's customer-centric approach also reflects its unique risk management focus and adherence to its mission of providing stable pricing, consistent capacity, adequate risk transfer and property preservation of its policyholders."
