| | Retired WC Judge Leon Berger Dies By John Millrany - June 19, 2001The founder of California Retired Workers’ Compensation Judges Assn. (CRWCJA), Leon H. Berger, has died at 91. A graduate of USC Law School who also studied at UCLA, Berger died June 14 in Reseda.
Prior to becoming a WC judge in 1958, Berger was an attorney for the California Division of Labor Law Enforcement as well as a deputy labor commissioner. At retirement, he founded CRWCJA and served as its first president.
Berger grew up in Los Angeles and had experience as a child actor in silent films and vaudeville. He was a World War II veteran and served with the United Nations Rehabilitation Corps in Germany.
In addition to working as an arbitrator in dispute resolution, Berger during retirement read law textbooks for recordings to aid blind law students. He was also a devoted hiker even in his ninth decade. |
