Glendale SCIF Office: Where is the Love? By Robert Warne - June 26, 2002State Compensation Insurance Fund (Fund) employees in the Glendale office aren’t feeling the love they expect from management these days. Their beef is that management failed them by not informing them earlier of threats directed at their 655 N. Central Ave. workplace.
In fact, some employees think it is ironic that a workers’ compensation company would neglect the safety of it’s own employees.
The Glendale Police Department was notified June 4 of a possible aerial attack on the tallest building in Glendale. The attack was to happen June 5 at 8:45 am.
Employees found out via E-mail June 6 of the threat. They are torqued because they weren’t told sooner.
Maggie Blevins, a Fund claims adjuster told the Los Angeles Times, “The employees don’t like management deciding to take the risk for them.”
Blevins, who is also the regional director for the California State Employees Assn. added, “We want the option to go home or be evacuated on our own time for a serious or terrorist threat,” according to the Times.
Fund Spokesman, Jim Zelinski explained to the Times that, “The company did not know of the terrorist threat until June 5. All threats to safety are taken seriously, investigated by proper authorities and reported immediately to management.”
A second grievance was filed against the Fund after Police arrived at the Glendale building to deal with a bomb threat. |
