CWCI to Host 4th Case Law Seminar
By Michelle Logsdon - April 19, 2002

California claims professionals can receive their latest fix of case law information in May of this year. The California Workers’ Compensation Institute has announced the dates for its most recent injection of the seminar series, “California Workers’ Compensation Case Law: Impact on Defense and Negotiation Strategies.”

The seminar will focus on five areas of California’s workers’ compensation system: the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA), penalties, discovery, evidence and earnings. The legal impacts of these topics on claims administration and adjudication will be addressed.

Mike McClain, CWCI general counsel, said the seminar will be presented in both lecture and debate styles. “This is our fourth case law seminar in the past three years, and the response has been tremendous. Our goal remains the same: to provide those who work in the system a better understanding of the practical implications of decisional law so they can more effectively manage, negotiate and defend claims.”

The two-day seminar will be held Monday, May 20 at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, and Wednesday, May 22 at the Long Beach Renaissance Hotel. Times for the event are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. A one-hour lunch is scheduled both days as well.

For more information call Mel Long at CWCI (510) 663-1063.
