| | The Travelers Is Recognized By Military Times By Being Named On Its Best For Vets List By Lonce LaMon - April 18, 2016
The Travelers announced today that it has once again been named to the Best for Vets list by Military Times.
The company was recognized for its military-friendly hiring practices, benefits, training opportunities and corporate culture. The ranking is based on an annual survey that analyzes an employer’s commitment to connecting with veterans and providing an environment for success.
“It’s an honor to be continually recognized as a military-friendly company,” said John Clifford, Executive Vice President, Human Resources at Travelers. “We pride ourselves on having an inclusive and engaging culture, and we place a great emphasis on supporting our employees who are veterans.”
But even back in the 1970s and 1980s, Republic Indemnity was known to hire people who had been in the military. No known political group or government program was observed at the time to have inspired Republic to hire vets, and no organization gave out accolades. So, ostensibly Republic just did it through its specific choice, and professionals who were insiders to the insurance claims industry noticed it. No journalists were known to have written or broadcasted about it.
Republic also hired gays during this same era, a time when being in-the-closet was rampant to avoid political persecution. But for professionals in the know who had a sense of humor, the joke was that Republic might open a “uniform bar”.
