Jacelle Ford, May 25, 1961 – December 7, 2015. Jacelle Worked Throughout California As A Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner And Manager For Over 35 Years.
By Lonce LaMon - December 9, 2015

Veteran California workers’ compensation claims professional Jacelle Ford passed away on Monday, December 7th 2015.  She was born on May 25, 1961; she was 54 years old.

Jacelle began her career in workers’ compensation claims in the late 1970s.  She had her self-insured certificate by 1979 when she was only 18 years old.  She went on to graduate from Cal State Berkeley and to do post-graduate studies in management and supervision at USC.  She attended law school just five years ago.

Jacelle had been living with breast cancer long term.  She resided in Villa Park, California with her husband, George.  She is survived by husband George, her sons Derrick and Oscar Ford, and grandsons Demjai Ford and Dallas Seale Ford.

According to three of her colleagues, Celestine Lee of Sedgwick, Crystal Johnson of AIG, and Lisa Conley of Intercare, Jacelle was not one who lived a “scripted life”.   She lived true and genuinely every day.  She touched others positively either through her wisdom or through laughter.   She will be remembered for being a fun-loving individual who always encouraged others no matter what was going on in her life.

Jacelle worked at INA back in the day starting in 1979. There she worked her way up to supervisor.  In the 1990s she was the Regional Claims Manager at Alberton’s and provided leadership over eight claims supervisors and fifteen claims examiners.   From there she was extraordinary at negotiating long-term and short-term contracts for herself.  She worked for Sedgwick, Metro Risk, Tower Insurance Group, Gallagher Bassett, Berkshire Hathaway, Home Insurance, Majestic Insurance, and numerous other entities throughout the entire state of California.  By the first decade of the 21st Century she was the Western Regional Claims Manager of 7-Up RC Bottling, Inc.

She worked with Laura Powell, a present-day veteran workers’ compensation claims examiner at Sedgwick, starting back in 1989 when Laura was a file clerk and just 18-years of age at Continental Risk Management.

“Jacelle encouraged me to go to school and get my bachelor’s degree and move up the ladder,” Laura wrote on Tuesday, December 8th 2015.  “I completed my degree in 1999 after getting promoted to a claims examiner in 1998.  Over the course of time, Jacelle witnessed me getting married, the birth of my son, and helped me through the loss of my parents.   She always told me to be professional and to excel in the job I did.  Because of her influence I went on to complete my WCCA, WCCP, and pass the self-insurance exam.

“I am saddened by the loss of my dear friend but she will always be remembered in my heart for the special friendship we shared.”

It is believed that Jacelle’s last place of employment was at AIMS in Pomona, California.   Her husband, George, stated the family will not hold a memorial service for her but did express that Jacelle will be cremated.
