Rosa Williams joined Michael Sullivan & Associates in 2009 in the Orange office and opened up the San Diego office in 2012 as that new location’s Managing Attorney. Now with three attorneys in San Diego, Rosa’s ambition is to “grow the office large enough to where there’re seven to eight attorneys. Build up the practice. Grow it to where there’s a nice solid base here in San Diego,” she said today by phone.
Rosa has been living in San Diego for about ten years. When she’s not being a lawyer and working, she likes to spend time with her husband, friends, and “having people over for dinner” she says. She also likes to do a little gardening and take hikes.
Born near the city of Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, Rosa came to the United States at the age of six months. She grew up mostly in Fresno, California, but the family also spent some time in Los Angeles, as well. She was educated with a B.A. degree in Journalism and Public Relations at Cal State University at Fresno, and soon thereafter started working at Fremont Compensation Insurance Company in Fresno.
“I started out in vocational rehabilitation right out of college,” she said, “then I went into working as an adjuster when I moved to Hawaii. After working as an adjuster for a couple of years, I applied to go to law school in Hawaii.”
She got her Juris Doctorate degree late in the year 2000 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She passed the Bar exam in Hawaii, worked as a workers’ compensation defense attorney in

Hawaii for six months, and then moved back to California to the San Diego area. She then became employed as a workers’ comp adjuster for Preferred Employers Insurance Company while she prepared to take the California Bar exam. She passed the California Bar in 2003.
By 2004, Rosa was working for defense firm Gray and Prouty and then later she worked for defense firm Bradford & Barthel before joining Sullivan. When pressed to talk about herself, Rosa Williams has no proclivity to toot her own horn. “I’m an understated person. I don’t feel the need to talk on about myself. That’s not me,” she said this evening. She apologized to this writer if interviewing her was like “pulling teeth”.
But Michael Sullivan himself had no compunction about sounding a trumpet for Rosa. He said, “Rosa is wonderful. I have rarely encountered a lawyer who so commands the respect of her peers. The best lawyers in our firm come away feeling intimidated after they see her work.”
