| | Kimberly George Placed By Sedgwick Into New Role Of Senior Vice President, Senior Healthcare Advisor By Lonce LaMon - August 29, 2013
Kimberly George, a Sedgwick veteran who most recently was in the role of Senior Vice President, Managed Care Practice and Client Services, has been named by Sedgwick now to Senior Vice President, Senior Healthcare Advisor. Kimberly works and will continue to be based in the downtown Chicago Sedgwick office.
In her new position, Ms. George will explore and work to improve Sedgwick’s understanding of how health care reform will affect its business models, along with its product and service offerings. She will also serve as Senior Healthcare Advisor to Stone Point Capital, one of Sedgwick’s primary shareholders.
In a recent video interview with Sedgwick’s Communications Director, Jonathan Mast, Kimberly discussed how the Affordable Care Act, coming into effect on January 1, 2014, will impact workers’ compensation. She said, “It’s impossible for workers’ compensation patients to be treated entirely separate. We will be impacted.”
With more patients that were previously uninsured coming into the managed care system, there is concern about whether there is going to be enough available medical practitioners to treat injured workers in a timely and efficient manner. If there isn’t going to be enough, this could delay treatment, deteriorate quality of care, and subsequently drive up costs.

The industry, in light of this, has to think ahead. Kimberly said in her same video interview with Jonathan Mast, “Today our injured workers are referred to treatment providers who are typically physicians. In future healthcare delivery models, we really have to consider nurse practitioners and physicians’ assistants as part of the global healthcare delivery model.”
Over twenty years ago, Kimberly George became a registered nurse. Throughout her career, she has developed into a thought leader. Her thinking now as an executive professional revolves around issues related to health care quality and containing the costs of risk. In 2011, she was named by Business Insurance Magazine as one of their “Women To Watch” in the insurance and risk management industry.

She is interested in communication and dialog with the industry as it moves forward into the future with healthcare reform, and wants to “not just dialog, but create solutions.” Her latest venture is moderating an active LinkedIn discussion group called Transforming Health Care For Tomorrow.
She shares her perspective on health care issues and solutions, including preparing for health care reform, on the Sedgwick blog Connection.
