Oklahoma's Workers' Compensation Rates Just Continue To Rise. It's More Of The Same. By Lonce LaMon - November 15, 2012
Workers’ compensation rates will again increase in 2013 in the state of Oklahoma.
The announcement was made of late by the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner, John D. Doak, who faces Oklahoma businesses burdened by the sixth highest premiums in the nation. A study placing Oklahoma in this spot was conducted by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services.
The challenges to Oklahoma’s workers’ compensation system have long been endured. Oklahoma’s governor, Mary Fallin, conducted a survey in 2012 to which over 5,000 employers responded. All of them said the state’s workers’ compensation system is the number one challenge to doing business in Oklahoma.
Lawmakers failed to pass the Oklahoma Employee Injury Benefit Act by only a handful of votes during the 2012 legislative session. This same proposal is expected to be reoffered in the 2013 session. This act was considered by many to have been capable of creating a much improved alternative of a system that is now working in Texas.
