Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones today announced that Nancy Kincaid has joined the Executive Team of the California Department of Insurance (CDI) as Press Secretary in the Communications and Press Relations Office. Ms. Kincaid will be responsible for the day-to-day management of CDI press operations and will serve as a primary spokesperson for the Department.
"Nancy is a proven communications professional who brings two decades of experience in communications and media production with her," Commissioner Jones said. "The Department of Insurance welcomes her arrival and the new skills she brings to our executive team."
This will be Nancy's second tour of duty with CDI. From 2001-2003, she previously served as a Deputy Press Secretary for the Department. Prior to accepting her new Press Secretary position, Nancy served most recently as the Director of Communications for the Federal Receiver, California Prison Health Care Services. Her career in California Government public relations began in 1992 as the director of marketing and public relations for the California State Railroad Museum. She has held a leadership role in a number of departments, including serving as the Director of Communications and External Affairs for the California Department of Mental Health and Director of Marketing, Mitigation and Litigation at the California Earthquake Authority. In addition, she served as a Public Information Officer with the California Highway Patrol, providing media training for CHP officers and executives and as the Director of Marketing and Imaging with KFBK News talk Radio 1530 and KSTE News talk Radio 650 in Sacramento.
She has served as an adjunct faculty member at a number of local academic institutions, including American River College where she taught media studies and news writing and California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) where she has taught public relations writing and issues/crisis management for many years. Nancy currently teaches marketing courses at CSUS College of Business Administration.
Nancy received her Bachelor's degree with honors in Communication Studies & Public Relations and her Master's degree also in Communications with an emphasis in Government and Corporate Advocacy, both from CSUS.
