AIMS To Hire 30 Claims Professionals In A Brand New Office In Pomona, California, Opening On November 30th
By Lonce LaMon - September 25, 2012

Third-Party-Administrator AIMS, also known as Acclamation Insurance Management Services, is opening up a new office in Pomona, California, on November 30th 2012.   AIMS will now be handling the workers’ compensation claims for the Los Angeles City Fire Department account.

The City of Los Angeles went out for bids recently on their Police Department, Fire Department, and their Civilian Section.

“We were successful in getting the Fire piece,” said Dominic Russo, the CEO and President of AIMS.

The L.A. City Fire Department has presently and for some years been handled by Tristar Risk Management.   However, while L.A. City Fire will leave Tristar and move to AIMS, Tristar will retain the L.A. Police Department, while the L.A. City Civilian Section will be handled by ACME.

So, why an office in Pomona?  According to Dominic Russo, AIMS wants to attract professionals from the San Gabriel Valley, Riverside, San Bernardino, and even Orange County who don’t want to drive in the other direction.   He explained that their idea was the same as they had with their Valencia, California, office which opened in 2006.   For Valencia they wanted to attract “all the people who were commuting to Burbank, Pasadena, and Glendale.”

“It worked out well,” Dominic said.  “Valencia has been awesome.”

AIMS handles the Los Angeles County account in the Valencia office.  Also, the new L.A. City Contract requires the claims office to be within the bounds of Los Angeles County.  Pomona works because it is within L.A. County.

“We’re going to hire 30 people for the (Pomona) location,” Dominic went on.  “I think around 19 examiners, three supervisors.

Our claims manager who handles the civilian claims now in Valencia is going to move to Pomona.”   She is Tracy Copeland.

Presently AIMS handles 80% public entities and 20% private sector clients.  They get opportunities in the public sector when entities go out for bid. But, “we are constantly trying to add to our private sector business.”

In Fresno, California, AIMS has a claims office with about 40 people.  They handle the City of Clovis, Valley Risk Management Authority--which is a 55 city JPA, Harris Farms, and Zacky Farms. They also have a Sacramento office as their corporate headquarters plus a separate branch office for claims handling.    Then, they have their Valencia claims office and now the upcoming Pomona office will be their fifth office in California.

Dominic Russo has been the President of AIMS since 1994, and also President of Allied Managed Care, AIM’s sister company which performs bill review, utilization review, and nurse case management.  In 2011 he took on the title of CEO also, which had been held by his father, Leonard Russo.  “My father finally decided that he’d step back a little bit,” Dominic explained.

Leonard Russo is now the Chairman of the Board of AIMS and Allied Managed Care, and has a career that extends forty years.  In the 1980s Leonard Russo had an office in Los Angeles near LAX where he handled the historic RTD account.  He has throughout his career offered services for both workers’ compensation and liability claims handling.

“He’s a goer,” Dominic says of his father.  “He’s awesome.”
