Matthew Hopkins Now President and CEO of Argus West Investigative Services
By Lonce LaMon - March 3, 2012

Matthew Hopkins, who recently left Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies where he was their SIU Director, is now the President and CEO of Argus West Investigations.

Argus West is affiliated with the Argus Agency based in Chicago, Illinois, but is incorporated in the western U.S. as Argus West, Inc.   The company has a strong focus on workers’ compensation claims provider, claimant, and premium fraud.  Service spans the entire state of California and other western states with a base office in Fountain Valley, California.

Philip J. Premetz, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in July of 2011, had led Argus West as the owner and managing director for over 20 years.  He developed the company into a leading investigative company working for a copious number of insurers.

Matthew Hopkins was a member of the Argus West investigative team from the year 2000 to 2003.  In 2003, he was hired by American Commercial Claims Administrators (ACCA) to develop an SIU (Special Investigations Unit) program.   Around 2006, ACCA was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway.

Although Hopkins did not return adjustercom’s phone calls, he did manage to write in an email, “I am swamped with taking over this investigative company.”  He also commented on provider fraud by writing, “I think one of the biggest problems in work comp is that no one knows how to bring these providers to their knees like we were doing at Berkshire.  Only less than a handful of SIU’s really get out there in the mix and door knock these doctors and turn them into sources like we have.”

Argus West has been around since 1981.
