| | Deer In The Headlights To The Hood Of Your Car. Auto Body Claims Skyrocketing This Holiday Season From Deer Collisions. By Lonce LaMon - November 28, 2010With deer mating season in full swing together with hunting season at this time, deer accidents are so prevalent that a body shop in central Virginia claimed that 70% of their business now is deer related.
In a State Farm Insurance report issued in October, Virginia was listed as a high-risk state. In that same report, it was stated deer collision claims in 2008-2010 were more than 20 percent higher than five years earlier.
The damage caused by deer to a vehicle usually includes busted headlights, fender damage, dented and scratched hoods, and even hoof marks made when a deer jumps over a vehicle. Deer are so active and are behaving so wildly now that they even run into parked cars.
The average cost to a vehicle due to damage from a collision with a deer is $3,000. Drivers are warned to be very vigilant, cautious, and to slow way down in deer areas. But, if a collision cannot be avoided it is recommended never to swerve and run the risk of hitting something else or driving off the road. Deer related accident mortalities are on the rise in proportion to the general rising of deer accidents.
Motorists are warned to keep highly alert now, slow way down, and be watching for those deer in the headlights.
