Workers’ compensation defense attorney George Woolverton hits a milestone. His career is more than just being a lawyer.
By Lonce Lamonte - August 18, 2025

George Woolverton is now celebrating 30 years with his law firm of Stockwell, Harris, Woolverton and Fox. He is the firm’s president with nine offices California statewide.

The “Stockwell firm” as it is often called, is a workers’ compensation defense firm, overall, and it also practices Employment and Labor Law, Civil Liability Defense, and Subrogation.

The name Stockwell comes from one of the founding partners, Eugene Stockwell, who was part of the firm when it was called Kendig, Stockwell and Gleason back in the 1970s. George has kept Stockwell as his lead firm name and has also memorialized Harris, after Steve Harris who was recently co-president with George up until 2020.

Now, the two living, active name partners are George Woolverton and Jaime Fox. George made sure he embraced a woman as a name partner with Jaime in 2022.

Actually, George Woolverton has been with only two firms in his career. He started with Zonni, Ginocchio and Taylor in 1975 just after he passed the state Bar exam. “Zonni’s office” was a big-time firm in the 1970s and 80s in workers’ compensation claims defense. Then it closed in the 1990s but after George had already moved over to the Stockwell firm.

George Woolverton did his undergraduate studies with a double major of Political Science and Behavioral Sciences at Cal State University Dominguez Hills where he graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in 1972. He got his J.D. degree in 1975 from Southwestern University School of Law.

Since then, he’s been a member and participant in many associations. It’s a long list:

• Member of the Southwestern University School of Law Board of Trustees
• California Insurance Guarantee Association Board of Governors
• Former Chairman of The Fair Employment and Housing Commission
• Southwestern Law Review
• Council on Litigation Management
• State Bar of California
• Los Angeles County Bar Association
• American Bar Association
• Member of the Defense Research Institute

George Woolverton was appointed in 1999 to serve as Commissioner and Chairman of the Fair Employment and Housing Commission (FEHC) by California Governor Gray Davis. The FEHC is a quasi-judicial administrative agency which enforces California civil rights laws regarding discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations; pregnancy disability leave; family and medical leave; and hate violence. Members are named by the governor and serve staggered, four-year terms.

Governor Gray Davis renominated George in 2003. Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar nominated him to serve a third term in 2006. George even went on to serve a fourth term and then left the commission shortly after the start of a fifth term when he was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown.

In 2004, George helped found and became a member of the Council on Litigation Management upon recommendation of its Advisory Board, and following evaluations of the highest ethical standards and integrity, accomplishment in the profession of law and adherence to the Canons, ethical considerations, and disciplinary rules of the Model Code of Professional Conduct.

In 2011, George was appointed by Senate Pro Tem Steinberg to the California Insurance Guarantee Association Board of Governors until 2018. He was appointed to the San Juaquin River Delta Commission and served with enthusiasm from 2018 to 2021.

George Woolverton’s wife is Katrina Abrahamian Woolverton, who is an attorney and an accomplished singer. George and Katrina met at a judge’s retirement party. She won Star Search, which was hosted by Ed McMahon, when she was a child.

Katrina has sung in many cities through out the United States and in Europe, and her performance some years ago at a small venue in London, England was delightful. Less than two years ago, Katrina sold out the Mint in Los Angeles as she has for many prior years.

She has had five top 40 songs on the charts. She’s had 10 songs on American Radio and two also rotating on the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation).

Katrina toured with Meat Loaf for a year, with Blues Traveler for two years, and with Goo Goo Dolls and the Revivalists.

George and Katrina were named Alumni of the year 2017 at Southwestern University School of Law.

George learned how to fly an airplane when he was 16 years old at the Torrance airport. He’s overall quite the sportsman. He goes to Mammoth when there’s a good enough snowfall. He loves to be on his boat sailing the water as he floats out from his residence in Marina del Rey.

Scuba diving is also a passion. George relishes his trips to Fiji to indulge in the best views any scuba diver could ever find under water.
