Workers' Compensaton: News Brief By Associated Press - April 10, 2005
Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, renews his efforts Wednesday to regulate workers' compensation insurance rates. His bill would create a commission made up of the governor, attorney general and insurance commissioner, or their designees, to make sure rates were not excessive, inadequate or discriminatory.
Alarcon contends the state won't be able to ensure that employers aren't being overcharged for workers' comp insurance unless it sets up a rate-regulation system.
His bill is before the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee on Wednesday.
