Former Controller Of Workers' Comp Agency Sentenced To Prison For Embezzlement By Associated Press - November 4, 2004
SACRAMENTO (AP) _ The former controller of a workers' compensation agency has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for embezzling more than $300,000.
U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr. also ordered Barbara Manning, 41, of Rocklin to pay $331,162 in restitution and serve two years of supervised release after completing her prison term.
Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that Manning made out more than 100 checks from an Alpha Fund Joint Powers Agency account to herself between July 1998 and July 2002 and did not list the checks in the agency's register.
The Alpha Fund provides workers' comp coverage for employees of local government agencies.
