Suit Filed for Infant Contaminated by Salmonella By John Millrany - June 14, 2001In another case of a contaminated cantaloupe, a suit has been filed on behalf of a 16-month-old child who allegedly contracted salmonella from a tainted melon from Mexico.
Parents of Nathan Eget of Tarzana filed suit in Los Angeles June 12 after the child was hospitalized nine days, suffering from fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, the Viva brand fruit was imported by Shipley Sales Service of Nogales, AZ. Such fruit has been associated with an outbreak of salmonella that caused two fatalities in California, the FDA said.
The suit asks recovery of $37,000 in medical bills plus unspecified damages for pain and suffering, future medical bills, loss of employment and life as well as other alleged damages.
There has been no comment on the case by Shipley.
