Joey Buttafuoco Jailed For Auto Claims Fraud But Not With Any 'Long Island Lolita' By John Franklin - March 23, 2004
The infamous Joey Buttafuoco pleaded guilty to auto insurance fraud on Monday in Los Angeles, California, and began a one year jail sentence imposed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Horowitz.
Horowitz also ordered Buttafuoco to pay $4,624.00 in restitution to 21st Century Insurance Company and to surrender his state license to repair cars. He was one of ten people arrested in a sting operation into phoney auto insurance claims. Buttafuoco had also helped undercover investigators concoct false insurance claims.
Joey Buttafuoco is notorious for his involvement in the "Long Island Lolita" case of 1992. His then 17-year-old girlfriend, Amy Fisher, whom the tabloid press nicknamed the "Long Island Lolita", spent seven years in prison for shooting Buttafuoco's wife, Mary Joe, in the face. Buttafuoco himself served six months in jail for statuatory rape.
An auto body repair shop owner, Buttafuoco was arrested in December. He was also sentenced to five years probation; his company will lose its license. However, he can reapply for the license in a year.
