Officials Shut Down A Work Comp Peep Show By Robert Warne - September 9, 2003
Bay Area officials recently uncovered that a strip club and a blues bar in San Mateo had more in common than met the naked eye.
Despite the difference in entertainment provided at each venue, the only other difference was how the owners planned to deal with the 45 felony fraud charges they were hit with.
Alejandro Antй, Jr., co-owner of Club Antй and Vibe Oyster Bar opted to deal with the charges by pleading no contest to three counts of paying employees under the table to avoid paying for workers’ compensation.
But his partner, Sally McClelland thinks she will fare better with the 45 charges in front of a jury.
Officials stumbled onto the workers’ compensation violations during their investigation into reports that Club Antй customers were being allowed to directly touch and tip the female dancers.
Both clubs have subsequently been closed and Antй and McClelland are in the process of dissolving their business relationship according to the San Mateo Daily Journal.
Antй will be sentenced Sept. 19 and despite his plea, he could still spend four years in behind bars for his actions.
