Commissioner’s Liquid Lunch at Alistar By Robert Warne - October 24, 2002
Alistar Insurance Company is one step closer today to joining the liquid ranks of the state’s greatest and not so greatest workers’ compensation insurers.
Realizing that the company lacked the necessary assets to remain in business, the California Department of Insurance obtained an order of liquidation Oct. 24 for Alistar.
State Insurance Commissioner Harry Low conserved Alistar April 11 following a March 31 financial statement that put Alistar nearly $1 million under the State’s minimum capital requirement. The company was also under-reserved by $4 million, which prompted the commissioner to seek the order from the Fresno County Superior Court.
Alistar is based in Fresno and transacts workers’ compensation, private passenger auto liability and auto physical damage insurance and surety bonds.
The Conservation and Liquidation Office has been managing Alistar and paying claims since April.
