| | EDIC Free From Old Carriers’ Straight Jacket By Robert Warne - January 8, 2003Over the holidays California employers and some adjusters received a pleasant gift in contrast to all the work comp coal they’ve accumulated over the years.
The Glendale-based Employers Direct Insurance Company (EDIC) opened its doors in December after the Department of Insurance granted the company its insurance licensed.
Two work comp mavens, James Little and Ronald Groden, whose association dates back to the early days of Fremont Compensation, founded EDIC. With its unique pool of corporate talent and its $50 million dollars in unencumbered capitol from open cases or liabilities from earlier years, EDIC is perched on the vista of assured success.
The company understands that claims professionals across the board are victims of a vicious cycle of excessive workloads brought on by current market conditions, mismanagement and staffing limitations.
So bucking the trend and music to any adjuster’s ears, EDIC wants to maintain the lowest claims caseloads comparatively in the industry.
Also with Fremont roots and 21 years of workers’ compensation claims experience to back her up, Joyce Schulman was named the Vice President of Claims.
Out of the gates EDIC plans to service the five surrounding Los Angeles Counties, but has its sights set on San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley in the future.
EDIC’s entry into California doesn’t change the parched workers’ compensation landscape over night, but in due time it’s influence may start to break down the current hard market conditions.
