| | Worker Threatens Mass Destruction in Claims Hassle, Authorities Say By John Millrany - April 4, 2001A May 22 trail date has been ordered for Ronald Denton, a 37-year-old Chevron employee who pleaded not guilty April 2 to federal charges that he threatened to blow up a refinery unless he got a multimillion disability settlement.
Denton, indicted March 27, has been arraigned on charges of interfering with interstate commerce by threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction and mailing threatening communications.
Assistant US Attorney Dave Fields said a search of Denton’s Torrance, CA apartment turned up a .30-caliber SKS assault rifle with a 50-round magazine, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, a book on how to convert the gun to automatic fire, books on C-4 explosives and how to evade arrest, and two handguns.
