| | Time For a Cosmetologist to Make-up a Good Story By Robert Warne - March 25, 2003Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) kicked off its first workers’ compensation fraud production in decades with Nicole Nichell Johnson starring in the opening act.
With referrals up ever since LAUSD reported it spent over $146 million on workers’ compensation in 2002, officials have been eager to audition as many fraud candidates as possible.
Johnson, an educational aid at Arlington Heights Elementary School in Los Angeles allegedly injured her back and left foot when she slipped and fell down some stairs at the school in 2001.
She received treatment and was later released to go back to work with standing, walking and sitting restrictions.
The school was unable to accommodate her restrictions, so she was placed on temporary disability and pulled down $126 a week.
The school district then decided to monitor the claim. Under video surveillance it wasn’t long till investigators caught Johnson out of character.
While out on disability she was observed moonlighting as a licensed cosmetologist.
Following her arrest in January, Johnson pled not guilty to two counts of insurance fraud for receiving a total of $5,454 in workers' compensation benefits.
This all goes to show, that no amount of make-up can cover up a bad claim.
