Do you Smell Something Funny? By Robert Warne - March 4, 2002You may be able to get away with more in Nevada than in California, but you can’t get away with everything. Friday, March 1 the Nevada Attorney General’s office charged a San Jose, CA man for failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance.
Walter Gonzales, owner of Depressurized Technologies International, an aerosol recycling firm, is facing five felony charges stemming from an explosion at his Minden, NV plant.
Four men were injured, and one was killed in the blast, that has already cost the state $500,000 in medical expenses.
The four survivors claim they were not trained properly nor were they provided the necessary protection from the inherently dangerous task they performed.
Gonzalez’s attorney argued that the employees didn’t take appropriate safety precautions when they released the volatile gases from aerosol cans.
Depressurized Technologies was started by Gonzalez in Morgan Hill, CA in 1994. He is expected to surrender to authorities this week.
