California Governor Edmund G. Brown has appointed George Parisotto as Administrative Director of the Department of Industrial Relations’ Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC).
Parisotto has filled the position of Acting Administrative Director since February of 2016, following the departure of Destie Overpeck who went to the State Bar of California
George has served in several positions at DWC since 1998. He was Acting Chief Counsel and Industrial Relations Counsel. He was a workers’ compensation claims examiner at the U.S. Department of Labor, Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program from 2004 to 2007, and an associate at the Thierman Law Firm from 1990 to 1998. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
“We are very pleased with the choice of George Parisotto as Administrative Director, as he has been a valued member of our department,” said Christine Baker, Director of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).
George Parisotto has been suspending, starting in 2017, workers’ compensation service providers who have been found guilty of fraud either in workers’ compensation, in the Medicare system, or who have lost their licenses from the California Medical Board. AB 1244 (Gray and Daly), which went into effect January 1st, introduced new changes to the workers’ compensation system and requires the division’s Administrative Director to suspend any medical provider, physician, or practitioner from participating in the workers’ compensation system who has been found guilty of felony or misdemeanor fraud or is no longer licensed.
Now the total number of service providers suspended, thus far, in 2017, from participating in the workers’ compensation system comes to 49.
