Top Insurance Officials to Attend Seminar in Las Vegas By John Millrany - June 20, 2001California Insurance Commissioner Harry Low and Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer will be among guest speakers at the Association of California Insurance Companies’ XII annual General Counsel Seminar July 25-27 in Las Vegas, reports Barry Carmody, ACIC president.
"Top insurance industry, legal and political officials will be on hand to discuss an outstanding array of insurance and related legal issues," Carmody said. The event kicks off with a California State Bar Insurance Law Committee meeting followed by a welcome reception Wednesday, July 25.
Commissioner Low will be featured in the Thursday, July 26 program, along with the keynote address by Assembly Insurance Committee Chairman Tom Calderon, Department of Insurance General Counsel Steven Green and J. Clark Kelso, a law professor who was appointed acting insurance commissioner after former Commissioner Chuck Quakenbush resigned in a statewide scandal last July 10.
On Friday, July 27, Lockyer will deliver the keynote speech.
The seminar will also include several panels including "Privacy, Perils and Paranoia" and "Workers’ Compensation Exclusivity after Vacanti: Is the Seemingly Endless Litigation Finally Over?"
Other presentations/discussions will address "Reopening the Statute of Limitations…SB 1899 Lawsuit Issues," "The New World of Market Conduct Examinations," "Recent Appellate Decisions" and "Countrywide Perspectives on Trends in Insurance Regulation."
Carmody pointed out that the event, sponsored by 25 of California’s leading law firms, has been approved for minimum continuing legal education (MCLE) credit by the State Bar of California (9.25 hours).
Registration fees are $325 for ACIC members and seminar sponsors, $525 for guest members, $75 for guests (social functions only) and $100 for golf tournament participants.
The seminar will be held at Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip.
