| | Energi and HDI-Gerling Select York to Manage Workers’ Compensation Claims By Lonce LaMon from Press Release - November 24, 2014
York Risk Services Group, a provider of claims management, managed care and risk management services, today announced it has been selected to manage workers’ compensation claims by Energi, a leading provider of risk management and insurance for the energy industry and HDI-Gerling, commercial property and casualty insurer and strategic insurance partner to Energi. Energi will adopt York’s TeamComp platform, which combines sophisticated data analysis with proactive clinical response to lower claims costs and improve outcomes for injured workers. The partnership was announced at the National Workers Compensation and Disability Conference in Las Vegas, November 19-21.
“TeamComp represents the best of both worlds: it merges predictive data-driven analysis with hands-on expertise to reduce costs while ensuring workers receive the best care” said Rick Taketa, President and CEO of York. “This partnership with Energi/HDI-Gerling is a fantastic opportunity to build on our success to date and implement TeamComp at scale across Energi and HDI-Gerling’s expansive policyholder network.”
By continuously reviewing years of workers’ compensation data, TeamComp can identify specific triggers that are key drivers for increasing claim duration and cost. These triggers—often subtle clues that have traditionally gone unnoticed—are then sent to York’s dedicated clinical review team for analysis. York’s medical experts identify and address issues as they occur to achieve optimal outcomes for both the injured worker and the employer.

“It is clear to us that TeamComp is a more sophisticated and effective approach to workers’ compensation than anything else on the market,” said Brian K. McCarthy, Energi CEO. “York’s commitment to innovation is closely aligned with Energi’s values. This platform will allow us to offer our policyholders a best-in-class solution to manage workers’ compensation.”
Energi, HDI-Gerling and York previously collaborated on a study that reviewed the impact of nurse case management (NCM) and professional provider organizations (PPO) in reducing the overall costs and duration of workers’ compensation claims. The study compared a control group with claims from Energi/HDI-Gerlingand managed care services provided by York’s managed care division, WellComp Managed Care Services. Results showed that the involvement of nurse case managers reduced disability periods an average of 44 days, demonstrating the extent to which hands-on care improves results.
