Oxnard Police Officer, Edward Idukas, Is Sentenced to 120 Days In Jail For Workers' Compensation Fraud
By Lonce LaMon - June 18, 2013

Edward Idukas, like so many career police officers, lived in Simi Valley, California.  He was an officer with the Oxnard Police Department just up the 101 freeway from Simi.

But he must not have loved being a police officer all that much, as he demonstrated that he was way more in love with playing baseball.  He loved it so much that he chose to commit workers’ compensation fraud in order that he could ditch his police officer job and play baseball.

In 2009 he had an injury on the job; or at least, he alleged he had an injury.  When he returned to work, the very same day he returned, he told his supervisor that he injured his back that day bending down to lace his boots.  He was subsequently offered a desk job, but he refused the desk job alleging his back was killing him so much that he couldn’t even sit at a desk.

Some informant tipped off the Ventura County DA’s office.  Thus, an investigation ensued which brought forth videos of Idukas playing baseball.  He was video-taped pitching, batting, hitting, and even sliding into base.  All without any signs of pain.  If anything, he demonstrated being formidably able-bodied more than even the average able-bodied individual.

In March of 2013, Idukas—28 years of age—pled guilty to workers’ compensation fraud.  He was sentenced on Friday to 120 days in jail, 60 months of probation, and $120,000 in restitution.

Edward Idukas has a wife and two children, and they have moved from Simi Valley to Montana.  He is trying to get a job now in the oil fields of Montana.

He threw away a promising career as a police officer.  His attorney states that he is remorseful.
