270,000 Ohio Employers Win Restitution After Judge Rules They Were Overcharged By The State By Lonce LaMon - January 1, 2013
A judge’s ruling issued Friday, December 28th, against the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, indicates more than 270,000 Ohio employers are due restitution. This judge stated the employers were overcharged by the state, and now this ruling may wind up costing Ohio hundreds of millions of dollars.
In 2007, a group of Ohio businesses sued for $1.3 billion, stating that they paid too much for their workers’ compensation premiums. Cuyahoga County Judge Richard McMonagle agreed but has asked the group to lower their request for damages.
An attorney for the group told The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland that the final amount will be less than a billion dollars.
A spokesman for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation says they plan to appeal the decision.
