| | Claims Industry in So Cal Mourns Death Of Veteran Claims Assistant, Theodore Concepcion. Funeral Services To Begin Friday. By Lonce LaMon - October 10, 2012
Veteran workers’ compensation claims assistant, Theodore (Ted) Concepcion, who served adjusters in the greater Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas for over 25 years, has died. He was 60 years old.
Ted died early on Friday morning, October 5th, of a heart attack. He lived in Winnetka in the San Fernando Valley with his niece, Sheryl Fernandez, who is presently a workers’ compensation adjuster at Zurich American in Woodland Hills.
“He was like my Dad,” Sheryl said yesterday, Tuesday afternoon, by phone.
Ted had close friends and family in the claims adjuster business. His aunt, Pressy Pascual, had worked at Industrial Indemnity as an adjuster in the 1990s when Ted worked there. She was a well-known veteran who started her career at CNA. Ted also worked with Joyce Schulman, Mark Rataj, Bonnie Madrid and various other veterans who are active today.
Cora Bucklin, today an adjuster at the City of Glendale, said she started working at Industrial Indemnity in 1988 in the Northrup Division Aircraft Unit in Los Angeles. From the day she started there at I.I., Ted was her claims assistant.
“His character just made you laugh,” Cora said. “We’d tease him a lot.”
One thing Cora Bucklin explained about Ted is that he never wanted to be a claims examiner. He was happy in his position as a claims assistant. Thus he worked for Industrial Indemnity from the 1980s until I.I. was purchased by Fremont Indemnity / Fremont Compensation Insurance Company in 1997. Then Ted stayed on with Fremont until 2001. After 2001 he did temporary assignments in various places.
He worked as a temporary at Zenith Insurance Company for at least two years. He worked recently for Ameron in Pasadena, and his last position was with CIGA (the California Insurance Guarantee Association) in Glendale.
Some friends like Cora Bucklin would call Ted “Buddha” because of his round figure. He loved to gamble and go to Las Vegas. He loved to play games online. He was a good person with a good heart who liked to help people by doing things for them, such as giving them rides.
Ted also loved the Catholic Church, and was very devoted and active in the church—so much so that friends nicknamed him “Father”. He participated in the Eucharistic Ministry.
Funeral, wake, and memorial arrangements are as follows:

Colleagues and friends are welcomed to all services and to express their condolences and sadness at the passing of Theodore Concepcion.
