Hector Porrata, Former Work Comp Claims Manager, Released From Prison
By Lonce LaMon - August 24, 2012

Hector Porrata, the former workers’ compensation claims manager of Matrix Absence Management that had a claims office in the San Gabriel Valley back in the early years of the 21st Century when Hector worked for the company, was discharged from California state prison on August 11th 2012.  He is on probation now under the supervision of the County Supervisor in San Bernardino, California.

Hector had been sentenced to eight years in California State Prison on April 9th 2010 by Judge Frank Fasel in Orange County Superior Court.   Therefore, he actually served only two years and four months of his sentence.  But the eleven months prior to his sentencing he spent in the Orange County jail.

Hector Porrata also worked for Sedgwick Claims Management in the Inland Empire and then at AIG in Costa Mesa.  He had a long background in claims dating back to the 1980s.   He was working for Springfield Insurance Company-Grocers & Merchants in Covina, California at the time of his arrest in May of 2009.

Hector got involved in a kick-back scheme with Rene Montes who had met Hector and known him from working at Sedgwick.    Rene set up a fake vendor called Workers Compensation Surgery Center (WCSC) with a P.O. Box location in La Habra and another location which was actually his home in Riverside.  No surgery was

ever done at all by this shell company, as what it did was act as a negotiator of liens.   Hector, and then his wife, adjuster Cara Cruz-Thompson, and then adjuster George Martinez, would pay medical lien bills to Rene, then Rene would take a piece of the money, and then negotiate and pay the rest of the money left over to the lien provider.

However, the game blew apart when Rene Montes started putting way too much of the lien money up his nose as he became more and more of a cocaine addict.  The CEO of Coast Plaza Doctors’ Hospital in Norwalk, Craig Garner, figured out his hospital bills were being paid to Rene Montes instead of directly to his hospital bill collector.  He then sued Hector Porrata and Rene Montes in a civil action which further led through investigation to the criminal charges by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in 2009.

Cara Cruz-Thompson and George Martinez were also arrested in May of 2009 along with Hector Porrata and Rene Montes.   Cara and Hector were married at the time and were accosted by the police outside their home in Victorville as Hector was leaving for work.   Cara never received any kick-back money and was pulled into the scheme by her husband.   Her arrest and the one year she spent in the Orange County jail tragically led to the end of her marriage to Hector and also to her career, which she had truly loved.

George Martinez also spent one year in jail exactly as did Cara.   Rene Montes is now serving a 12 year sentence in California State Prison and is today housed in the prison facility in Susanville, California.  Susanville is located north of Sacramento and east of Redding near the California-Nevada border.

Hector Porrata was always articulate, well-educated, charming, and loved to wear beautiful designer suits.  He had the reputation of being a flirt and a ladies’ man. He is also a native New Yorker.
