Kelly Soo Park Appears In Court With The Grim Sleeper. Her Trial Predicted Not To Start Until November.
By Lonce LaMon - July 11, 2012

Evening News:

Kelly Soo Park appeared in court this morning in Downtown Los Angeles at Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in the same court room and at the same time with the Grim Sleeper!

Just after 8:30 am, the door to Department 109 opened, and a lot more people came into the court room other than Kelly Soo’s usual entourage.  About 16 to 18 of Park’s usual clan members were there, as well as her new attorneys George Buehler and Mark Kassabian, but then unfamiliar attorneys and a lot of other individuals entered and sat down taking up a good amount of space on the benches.  Thus, it was clear there was another case going on during this morning’s session with Judge Kathleen Kennedy.

Needless to say, it was freaky and uncanny to experience the juxtaposition of Kelly Soo Park, a lovely and elegant white Caucasian and Korean half-breed who looks like a fashion model, and is out on bail and about to stand trial for the murder of Juliana Redding; and Lonnie Franklin, Jr., a 60ish year-old Black male with a bald and shaved head who is incarcerated and about to stand trial for multiple murders as a serial killer.   Franklin ravaged South Los Angeles dating back to the 1980s, killing mostly prostitutes.  He is unusually small in appearance in relation to how I have imagined his crimes, and it was creepy seeing him come out the side door behind the bailiff’s quarters handcuffed in his bright orange jail suit.

Lonnie Franklin, Jr. was arrested in the Summer of 2010 after a 20-year-plus investigation which finally led to a DNA match.   He was considered a very nice man by most of his neighbors who praised him for being so helpful towards the elderly and for so generously fixing their cars so inexpensively or practically for free.   He was considered a very good mechanic.

He is about to stand trial for killing at least 10 women and is believed to possibly be responsible for many more murders.

Kelly Soo Park was called after Lonnie Franklin, Jr.’s case.  She stepped up to the defendant’s side of the table before the judge when called forward by her lawyers.  She wore a blue and white striped shirt with white cuffs and collar, not tucked in but out and tailored over her usual and customary black pants.  She wore elegant black high heeled shoes.

George Buehler spoke first when addressed by Judge Kennedy and stated he filed a motion for discovery.   He wants to do more DNA testing.   Eric Harmon, the deputy district attorney who appeared, stated he had just that morning filed a motion to compel for discovery and explained when asked by the judge that he is not seeking more DNA testing.

After the furtherance of discovery was discussed, and it being made clear that the defense is demanding more extensive DNA testing, but none is being requested by the prosecution, Judge Kathleen Kennedy asked the attorneys when they thought this case could get to trial.  George Buehler explained that he has another trial coming up in the early Fall, which will be for at least two weeks, therefore he needs to start this trial at the earliest in November.

Eric Harmon, who was asked by Judge Kathleen Kennedy when he is leaving and if his departure is going to cause further delays, assured the judge the case would not be delayed by his departure.  The word is that Eric Harmon is taking a position as a judge.  Thus, he will not be working at the trial, but Alan Jackson, who is running for District Attorney, is believed to still be active on this case and will try this case.

What was starkly absent from this yet another pre-trial hearing, and has been consistently absent from most of the pretrial hearings, was any mention of Munir Uwaydah, former M.D., whose license was revoked in 2010 in California.  He was Kelly Soo Park’s boss and is believed to have psychologically driven her to commit the murder—if she indeed committed the murder—and is the one individual who had motive to want his ex-girlfriend, Juliana Redding, killed.   Kelly Soo Park had no link to Juliana Redding except through Munir Uwaydah.

Juliana Redding was a beautiful, aspiring actress and model who was found murdered in her Santa Monica apartment on March 16th, 2008.  Kelly Soo Park's DNA was found at the murder scene.  It is speculated that Juliana Redding and her father, Greg Redding, a pharmacist, knew too much about Munir Uwaydah's fraud scams for Uwaydah's comfort.

Court closed when Kelly Soo Park was asked if she will waive time until August 17th.  She consented.

George Buehler, one of Kelly Soo Park's attorneys, fixes his shoe at the corner of Spring Street and Temple Street in the heart of downtown L.A. on a scorchingly hot day just after leaving court on July 11th 2012.  George Buehler has experience in defending medical doctors and their practices against accusations of fraud and also in representing individuals being investigated by the government.  Kelly Soo Park, being involved in Dr. Munir Uwaydah's insurance frauds, plus being investigated by government agencies, needs Buehler's experience in spades.   © Lonce LaMon, all rights reserved.

Thus, this case is coming back to the court, Department 109, for the furtherance of the discovery motions the morning of Friday, August 17th, 2012.
