Des Moines County Supervisors To Clarify Workers' Compensation Process By Lonce LaMon - December 6, 2011
In Iowa, Des Moines County Supervisors plan today to approve a resolution clarifying the process taken by employees when injured on the job.
Supervisors recently decided the county will self-fund minor workers' compensation claims rather than submit them to its insurance provider as a way of reducing the claims frequency charged to their workers' compensation experience modification.
Officials hope reducing the claims frequency will help keep the county's future workers' compensation insurance premiums low.
When an employee is injured, the incident must be reported to a supervisor, department head, and county safety director. The safety director will work with Great River Business Health and the insurance carrier to decide whether costs will be paid by the county or forwarded to the insurance company.
