| | More Claims Adjusters Mobilized By More Destructive And Deadly Tornados By Lonce LaMon - April 29, 2011
Adjusters are travelling to areas in the South over another outbreak of tornados. Claims have begun to roll in from states affected by more than 100 reports of tornados that have caused almost 200 deaths in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia.
Two weeks ago, tornados hit hardest in North Carolina and Virginia; but also hit Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina. However now, two weeks later, Alabama and Mississippi are getting a double whammy.
Since yesterday, State Farm has received more than 3,300 homeowners and auto claims from Alabama, more than 800 from Mississippi, and more than 400 from Georgia.
Jim Ridling, the Alabama Insurance Commissioner, said his office has reached out to property insurers to provide a coordinated response to the storms. "We want to hit the ground running to deliver an effective response to all Alabamians affected by these tragic storms," he said.
President Barack Obama said in a statement that he spoke to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and offered federal assistance, including search and rescue. Obama also signed an emergency declaration for Alabama, which allows the federal government to coordinate and participate in relief efforts.
