Kelly Soo Park's Murder Trial Still Not In Sight
By Lonce LaMon - April 22, 2011

Nothing much at all happened this morning in the Kelly Soo Park murder charge proceedings in Downtown Los Angeles in Department 109 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.  Her case was continued until May 20th, Friday, in the same court room. And that was about it except for a couple of comments from the lawyers.

Kelly Soo Park is accused of murdering aspiring actress and model Juliana Redding on March 15th 2008 in Juliana’s Santa Monica apartment.  Kelly is also known to have been Munir Uwaydah, M.D.’s partner in crime in engineering pervasive workers’ compensation fraud.  Uwaydah is well known for abusing prescriptions of compound drugs, overprescribing medications in general, performing unnecessary surgeries, and abandoning patients.  He is also infamous for his simultaneous liaisons with beautiful women, where any one doesn’t know about the others, or at least, Uwaydah tries to keep it that way, however unsuccessfully.

Neither of Kelly Soo’s regular attorneys, Kay Rackauckas or Jennifer Keller, appeared.  Kelly was represented by a substitute attorney, a young Oriental woman with long black hair almost exactly like Kelly’s.  Except it was a little shorter.

Deputy District Attorney Eric Harmon appeared in Judge Kathleen Kennedy’s court room in a dark grey suit and dark red tie.  He said the defense had filed a 1050, and mentioned something about a waiver of conflict.  He stated he had gotten no response from defense counsel Jennifer Keller.

There has been pervasive conflict for the past three months over discovery and Kelly Soo Park’s hard drive.  Possibly law enforcement in Santa Monica does not want to return the hard drive, and the defense has repeatedly asked to have it back.  There is supposed to have been a discussion on camera with Judge Kathleen Kennedy and Detective Karen Thompson of the Santa Monica Police Department on the date of the last court proceedings, which was March 24th.  But nothing about that on camera discussion was mentioned today by the judge, the DA, or the defense.

Kelly Soo Park says good-bye to her family and friends on the sidewalk at the top of the stairs leading up from the courthouse.

So, this case has still not even gotten to the Preliminary Hearing, and Eric Harmon has promised the parents of the victim a quick and speedy trial, in order to get this trial over with for them.  But, he looks to still be spinning his wheels with all these discovery issues and conflicts over hard drive issues and other confiscated pieces of evidence.

Juliana Redding was strangled by her murderer who left the gas on at the stove and left a lit candle nearby.  Juliana had been one of Uwaydah’s latest girlfriends, although she ostensibly was no longer seeing him at the time of her murder.  Uwaydah wanted Greg Redding, a licensed pharmacist and Juliana’s father, to go into business with him. Greg Redding refused.  And not long at all after he refused Uwaydah’s proposition, Juliana Redding was found murdered.

Kelly Soo Park’s DNA was found on the victim’s body, and in other places in the apartment.  Kelly was arrested in June of 2010 but was released from custody late last year on a 3.5 million dollar bond.
