| | Kelly Soo Park Receives A Large Package Of Discovery Documents From DA During Court Tuesday. She Asks For Her Hard Drive Back. By Lonce LaMon - February 9, 2011
Kelly Soo Park, the alleged murderer of aspiring actress and model Juliana Redding, and the reputed henchwoman to Dr. Munir Uwaydah, notorious workers’ compensation fraud doctor, appeared in court on Tuesday, February 8th, in Department 109 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
The proceedings got going at around 9:45 am. Deputy District Attorney Eric Harmon opened up for the People with the longsuffering issue of discovery. He held up a thick, fat, oversized manila envelope. Judge Kathleen Kennedy spoke for the record that the prosecution was “handing over a large manila envelope to defense counsel.”
The manila envelope contained names and addresses of prosecution witnesses. For months the contentious issue of discovery has bogged down the progress of this case because of many prosecution witnesses who do not want their identities turned over to the defense. Arguments from the defense have persisted, demanding the witness list. But, discovery previously handed over by the prosecution to the defense has been redacted with many names and addresses omitted. The defense has filed motions demanding full discovery, and objecting vociferously to what defense counsel Jennifer Keller had called “wholesale redaction” and “swiss cheese”.
Kelly Soo Park sat at the left to her other defense counsel, Kay Rackauckas, at the table before the judge’s bench wearing a long crème colored sweater which was almost knee length, and black pants. Kay Rackauckas was slim and petite in her black suit. Earlier, Kelly Soo had been seated directly behind Kay in the audience seats. Kelly patted her lawyer on the back and Kay laughed. They seemed almost too playful for being players in a murder case defense. One would never imagine, watching them like that, that this was about murder.
Rackauckas told the court that she wanted Ms. Park’s hard drive returned. She voiced her demand for this property that was seized in a search warrant. She stated that Ms. Park needed to issue tax forms to her employees and that the hard drive contained the tax information.
There was discussion of creating a special master. Then there was discussion of whether the defense should just orally request the return of the hard drive or litigate for it. It was then stipulated that all be litigated. Court was then adjourned with the agreement that the case would continue on February 28th, Monday, at 8:30 am in the same department, 109.
Twenty-one year old Juliana Redding was found dead in her Santa Monica, California, apartment on March 16th 2008. Kelly Soo Park’s DNA was found on the victim’s body and elsewhere in the apartment. It is alleged that Park turned on the gas on the stove and left it on with a candle lit on a table not far from that stove.
It is strongly alleged and rumored that Munir Uwaydah, M.D., put Park up to the murder of Juliana Redding, who had been a girlfriend of Uwaydah’s. Uwaydah had desired to do business with Juliana’s father, Greg Redding, who is a pharmacist. Greg Redding backed out and declined to do business with Uwaydah just days before his daughter was murdered.
No charges have been made against Dr. Munir Uwaydah.
