A Matter of Munir: Is Munir Uwaydah, M.D., The Money Behind Kelly Soo Park’s Forthcoming Bail?
By Lonce LaMon - September 1, 2010

Prosecutor Alan Jackson was agitated and angry in the court room yesterday morning on the 9th floor of the Los Angeles Superior Court House as he talked loquaciously during the proceedings to argue against Kelly Soo Park getting released on insubstantial bail.

The man in question behind Kelly Soo Park and the 2008 murder of 21-year-old actress and model Juliana Redding in Santa Monica, California, is Dr. Munir Uwaydah, a workers’ compensation treating doctor who is known in the workers’ compensation industry for his flagrant acts of fraud, not only in workers’ comp and in the greater medical insurance system, but in general, as he has been found liable in court decisions as responsible for stealing a scanner from General Electric Medical Systems Europe in 2002 and to have ripped off General Electric for over 900,000 dollars.

Kelly Soo Park has been charged with the murder of Juliana Redding since her arrest over two months ago.  Kelly Soo worked for Uwaydah and was ostensibly his right hand woman.   Munir paid Kelly over $300,000 just before Juliana Redding's murder, and paid her another approximately $300,000 just after the murder.  The fact of these payments looks more than suspicious.  To boot, Kelly's DNA has been found on Juliana’s body’s neck and throat, and in other places at the murder scene, which was Juliana Redding’s Santa Monica apartment.  It is alleged that Kelly Soo Park lit a candle and turned on the gas of all the burners of Redding’s stove in an attempt to blow up the apartment and destroy all evidence.

The court room was filled with relatives and friends of Kelly Soo Park who were ready to put up their houses, their piggy banks, and all they owned in order to post bail and spring Kelly out of jail.  Her ostensible common law spouse was there, Ronnie Wayne Case, and his father Ronnie Case, Sr. was putting up his land as collateral, which is most likely in the Salt Lake City area where he lives, claiming it is valued at three million dollars.  It was a scene created by a family that clearly loved Kelly Soo Park and believed in her innocence.

But D.A. Alan Jackson exuded his vibes that he thought something shady and surreptitious was going on.  His reluctance to passively allow this bail to be paid betrays his underlying feeling that Munir Uwaydah, M.D., is working behind the scenes and has promised to reimburse everyone posting bail.

Jackson questioned each and every person who was putting up money as to where their money was coming from and how they came to know Dr. Uwaydah.  Many people admitted Uwaydah had performed surgeries on them and one of them even appeared in a wheelchair.

When Ronnie Wayne Cases’s father, Ronnie Case, Sr., put up a big parcel of land as collateral, the D.A. claimed that they were fraudulently inflating the value of that land.  Jackson ostensibly suggests the only thing that’s going to keep Kelly coming back to court is a high collateral, and if the land turns out to be of low value, she’s going to be a flight risk and skip out on bail.

Her defense lawyers were getting pissed.  The DA wants her to be very worried that if she goes on the run Ronnie Case and his father will lose 3 million dollars.  But if the land is only worth something paltry (relatively speaking), like $200,000, Kelly really doesn’t have any kind of three million dollar pull.   D.A. Alan Jackson argued on and on about all kinds of different numbers.  But, the defense attorneys and Judge Schwartz expressed that he didn’t have the right to debate all that stuff.

As people posting bail spoke out in the courtroom, Jackson asked, “Had you ever heard of Dr. Munir Uwaydah?”  And many of them answered matter-of-factly that, yes, they knew Kelly worked for him.  Every single person who was offering to post bail was questioned by the prosecutor.

Only $130,000 in actual cash was put forth from family members and friends.  A person who had only known Kelly Soo for 18 months, put up $50,000 as a contribution towards her bail.  The prosecutor questioned him as to what was in it for him, on so short an acquaintance.   The bail bondsman was in the court room and was asked by the prosecutor why he was only accepting 3.7% of the bail amount, when of course bail bondsmen generally accept no less than 10%.  The D.A. was suspicious and worried.

Alan Jackson finally asked the bondsman, “What’s your margin?” And then the defense attorney objected and the judge sustained.

Kelly Soo Park was seated at the defendant's table.  The D.A.’s worry is clearly that Munir Uwaydah is giving money behind the scene.  Clearly it’s possible that Uwaydah is guaranteeing reimbursements from behind his European/Middle Eastern curtain.  And perhaps with a premium on top of the principals.

Munir Marwan Uwaydah, M.D. can be incriminated by Kelly Soo Park.  Is he trying to put up her bail in order to be able to spring her out of the country?   Is he going to be able to pay her off and shut her mouth forever?

The story continues.  The next hearing for Kelly Soo will be held on September 14th.  Judge Schwartz made it clear that it looked like the bail postings were going to qualify and that Kelly would get out on bail on the 14th.

We’ll see….
