| | Joe Rippinger, Defense Attorney Stabbed Last Thursday, Expected To Make Full Recovery By Lonce LaMon - May 24, 2010Joseph Rippinger, who was stabbed last Thursday afternoon, May 20th, at the Los Angeles WCAB during the Lien Fiesta, is resting well and is expected to make a full recovery from his injury, according to Gary Bourassa, the Partner of Graves & Bourassa in Orange County where Rippinger is employed as a Workers’ Compensation defense attorney. Bourassa expressed that Joe Rippinger is today “doing great”.
According to a previous report, Rippinger was in the 9th floor copy room of the LA WCAB when he was attacked by the assailant. But this report has now been corrected. Also, Rippinger was not stabbed in the neck or torso, as was previously reported, but was stabbed in the back. The assailant has been identified as Andrew A. Torres, who has been taken into custody.
According to Gary Bourassa, Rippinger was merely sitting in Judge Renny’s court room, and Andrew A. Torres just came up from behind him and stabbed him in the back. There was no known motive for the attack.
Rippinger couldn’t tell or remember much of what happened, just that it felt like he was punched. He was taken to LA County / USC hospital where he is still recovering and resting. He first went to the Emergency Room, and then had surgery. He is expected to be released sometime this week.
Bourassa said this morning by phone that Joe is today laughing and cajoling from his hospital bed just like his usual self. Rippinger told Bourassa what happened to him was just “dumb luck”.
