| | John Riggs Appointed By Schwarzenegger To California State Fraud Assessment Commission By Lonce LaMon - December 28, 2009Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed John Riggs to the California State Fraud Assessment Commission last week.
Riggs is currently the Claims Manager of the self-insured, self-administered Workers' Compensation Claims Department of Disney Worldwide Services in Anaheim, California, and is active in the Employers Fraud Task Force which meets monthly in the City of Commerce at Steven's Steak House.
He is very dynamic in creatively developing Best Practices for fighting fraud. Starting in January 2010, John will begin his pilot program of sending out an Explanation of Benefits notice with a comprehensive copy of the medical services rendered invoice to his injured employees at Disney as a method to create what John calls "transparency" in the system. It is this transparency which John believes is most efficacious in preventing fraud from the get-go.
Many members of the Employers Fraud Task Force along with Work Comp claims professionals in general are very interested and look forward to hearing what results John will get from his new pilot program.
John was the Claims Vice President and Regional Claims Manager for California Casualty in Orange County in the 1990s. He was the Claims Manager of Zenith Insurance Company in the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Earlier in his career John worked for Kemper Insurance Company.
John Riggs is a Republican and resides in Mission Viejo, California. He is a member of the California Self Insurers Association, California Workers' Compensation Institute, and Southern California Self Insured Council.
This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
