Employers' Fraud Task Force Makes A Charitable Hit At Christmas Party By Lonce LaMon - December 16, 2010
On Tuesday, December 15th, the Employers' Fraud Task Force had its annual Christmas Party at Steven's Steak House in the City of Commerce, California, during a long lunch period from 11 am to past 1 pm. An excellent steak lunch was served and a Christmas tree graced the room.
Over $2,400 was raised as a gift to be bestowed upon a community outreach program, for the Alannah Foster Family Association, in Riverside.
To raise this money, members were asked to donate valuables to be put up for auction silently. Attendees of the Party perused the valuables and wrote down their bids for the items. All the money earned from all the winning bidders was given to the Alannah Foster Family Association.
John Floyd, the Senior Partner of the Law Firm of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, donated 5 digital video cameras. All the cameras were bid on. John himself won one of the cameras for himself through his own bid.
John Riggs, the Claims Manager of Disney Worldwide Services in Anaheim, donated a Disney Basket, which contained 2 passport tickets to the 2 Disneyland amusement parks, 2 matching jerseys, 2 mickey mouse watches, and various other goodies.
Many other valuable items were donated by members of the Fraud Task Force, as the donated valuables lined the back table the entire length of the room.
Cyndy Koppany, the new Director of Education for FSK Publishing, was there seated at the table next to John Riggs. Dan Brown, one of the lawyers of Floyd Skeren & Kelly attended, along with Jim Zoellner, the managing partner of Floyd, Skeren & Kelly from the Orange, California, office. Retired Judge David O'Brien, entertained many with his energetic discussions.
Al Mackenzie, a District Attorney from Los Angeles, attended. Mackenzie prosecuted Premier Medical Group, and was directly instrumental just a few months ago in getting Premier to withdraw 70 million dollars worth of their liens.
Laura Clifford, the Executive Director, presided over the group with her mother.
Every month, the Employers Fraud Task Force meets at Steven's Steak House on the 3rd Tuesday for lunch. It's a "lunch and learn" group. Individual speakers who are noted experts in the field of fighting fraud, take turns speaking at these luncheons.
Al Mackenzie has spoken this year, along with John Riggs and John Floyd. The modus operandi is to listen and learn from the experts, and to share ideas. The Fraud Task Force offers training on identifying fraud. Training videos on fraud have been made and are available for instruction. There is presently available a 2 part video which is instructive on identifying fraud and which recommends Best Practices.
The Fraud Task Force luncheons also present an opportunity for vendors to connect with claims professionals.
