| | Dept. of Managed Health Care Appoints 'Solvency Experts' By John Millrany - July 25, 2001The Department of Managed Health Care has appointed seven new members and an alternate to its Financial Solvency Standards Board, which addresses solutions to health plan and provider solvency issues "to better assure viability of health care."
The following were named to the board by DMHC Director Daniel Zingale:
Edward C. Cymerys, FSA, 47, of Corona Del Mar, vice president, Actuary, Pricing and Underwriting for PacifiCare of California since September 1978. He holds a BS degree from the University of Vermont.
Thomas J. Davies, 60, of Oakland, manager, Managed Care, Western Region for GTE Service Corp. since March 1992. He holds a JD from the John Marshall School of Law, MA in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh and BA from Miami University.
Melinda McIntyre-Kolpin, 44, of Pacific Palisades, founder, director and CEO of Network Health Financial Service, Inc. since February 1996. She holds a BS in business administration from USC.
J. Mario Molina, MD, 42, of South Pasadena, CEO of Molina Medical Centers since 1998, president from 1996-98, vice president from 1994-96 and medical director from 1991-94. He holds an MD from USC and BA from Cal State University, Long Beach.
Scott C. Syphax, 36, of Sacramento, manager of public affairs at Eli Lilly and Co. He holds a BS degree in business from Cal State University, Sacramento.
Paul R. Torrens, MD, MPH, 65, of Santa Monica is professor of health services administration at the School of Public Health at UCLA. He earned a MD from Georgetown University, MA in public health from Harvard University and BS from the University of San Francisco.
Ernie Wallerstein, 48, of San Jose is chief information officer/vice president of Managed Care at San Jose Good Samaritan Medical Group. He holds a BS from Ohio State University.
Paul Katz, 44, of Santa Monica will serve as a board alternate. The owner of Paul Katz Consulting, specializing in managed health care, he holds a MA in business administration from Boston University and a BA from UC-San Diego.
